I’ve taken the plunge and shifted my blog over to be self-hosted at http://thebutterflyeditions.com
Please head on over and check it out!
Thanks for reading! Hope to see you there!
Like many of you, I have a desk job, which means that I sit in front of a computer for the majority of my day. It is easy to fall into bad habits with a desk job, which not only means that the pounds can pile on quickly, but your attitude can take a dive bomb and you can end the day feeling completely exhausted.
1. Go for a walk on your break. It is so important to get outside during the day, for some fresh air and a shot of Vitamin D. Vitamin D, combined with a little movement will do wonders not only for your physical health but also your attitude and mind set for the afternoon. I aim for 30 minutes walking in my lunch break every day – which adds up to 2.5 hours of walking a week!
2. Hold back on the coffee. Don’t let yourself become addicted to coffee! And if you are, wean yourself off it. Coffee will dehydrate you and eventually leave you feeling even more tired. That’s not to say don’t have any coffee at all – I love (and look forward to) my coffee first thing in the morning to ease myself into the day, but limit yourself to no more than two a day. When you do have your coffee, sip away at it slowly and savour the taste. It is meant to be enjoyed, not gulped down in five seconds flat!
3. Keep a water bottle at your desk. And actually drink it. Aim for 1.5 litres during the work day.
4. Eat right. Guys, this is not new news. Pack a balanced lunch (my favourite is to bring leftovers from the night before), and bring a couple of snacks – maybe a piece of fruit and some nuts. Stay away from the vending machine!
5. Make time for yourself after work. Being happy at work is not only about being at work. What you do to maximise your happiness outside work hours will positively impact your mood overall. I often think about what I have planned after work and it puts me in a good mood all day. Plan to meet a friend for a drink on the way home, plan a date night to look forward to, or imagine how nice it is going to be when you get home and can make some cheese & crackers, plant yourself on the couch watching the Ellen Show…or whatever!
6. Smile. Even if it’s the day from hell, just smile. Having a positive attitude can make such a difference. Fake it til you make it, right?
Do you have a desk job? What’s your best health tip for us desk-dwellers?
Its the weekend!
Check out this amazing video of the Holstee Manifesto. A wonderfully inspiring watch to kick your weekend off on the right foot.
So get out there and do what you love this weekend, and forever.
How did I go with my weekly wishes last week?
Finish my book. Still not quite there, but inching closer! I always get to bed too late and once I’m a few pages in my eyes are drooping, ready to go to sleep.
Go for a run. Yup, I got out running twice (and to the gym a couple of times too). I love how daily fitness is slowly becoming a habit again.
Create a training plan. Yup. I printed out a calendar template and planned out the next couple of months, then roughly up to September…I think I’m going to run The Whale Run in Kaikoura!
Donate clothes I no longer wear. Done! Felt so good putting them in that clothing bin and having them gone once and for all.
Buy a Hard Drive. Not yet…eeek. This is stressing me out a bit…must get onto this!
What are my wishes for this week?
Go camping. I love camping! The boy and I went a few weeks ago, and are planning to go again this week with some of our friends. I can’t wait, I just hope the weather forecast holds true and it is lovely, summery and sunny.
Get my camera out. I have an awesome DSLR camera that I hardly ever use. It is coming camping with me this weekend and I’m going to get some awesome photos!
Write a post about my philosophy for 2014. I love setting and working towards goals, and am definitely running off the new year energy right now. I haven’t written down my resolutions for this year on the blog, maybe one day soon I will…but in the meantime I plan to write a post about my philosophy for how I intend to lead my life this year.
Basically, my biggest wish for this week is to have an amazing time camping – bring on Friday! Gosh, I hope the weather holds out like it did last time…
What are your wishes this week?
How did I go with my weekly wishes last week?
Write some more posts for The Butterfly Editions. Hmmm, I got one out, but would have liked a couple more! I did get away camping for the weekend out of cellphone reception (bliss!) which slowed down progress a bit there. However, I did start drafting a few and jotted down a list of ideas, which is a step in the right direction!
Pick some flowers for the house. I didn’t pick the daisies but I did dig up a few potatoes, and some chives…does that count?!
Finish my book. Not yet – definitely going to happen this week though!
Go for a run. Yep – twice!
No new clothes/makeup/things. Achieved 🙂 that wasn’t so hard after all.
And what are my wishes for this week?
Finish my book. Yep, this one is recycled from last week. I’m determined to make it happen!
Go for a run. Another recycled one, event though I achieved it last week. Its staying on the wishlist until it becomes a habit! On that note, my next wish is…
Create a training plan. I mentioned last week that I want to run a half marathon this year. I used to be really into long distance running when I was studying but in the last few years since working full time I have really fallen off the racing wagon. I simply need to decide which half marathon I am going to run, and create a plan for it. Easy-peasy, right?
Donate clothes I no longer wear. This is a bit of a cheat one. On Sunday I went through my closet and drawers and got rid of all clothes I never wear – I was pretty ruthless. Now, the goal is to take those bags of clothes to an Op Shop ASAP, before I change my mind and want to keep them after all!
Buy a Hard Drive. I have years worth of photos on my laptop, and none of them are backed up. My computer seems to be getting slower and slower these days (its had a good life!) and I’m becoming slightly paranoid that I’m going to lose them all. Must back computer up stat!
What are your wishes for this week?
In the last few months my Bloglovin’ Feed has had a few new (to me) additions, more focussed towards lifestyle, travel & wellness. One of my favourite blogs that I have recently discovered is The Nectar Collective. Melyssa’s blog is totally addictive – plus she has lived in Japan – one of my favourite countries!
The Nectar Collective has a weekly link-up called Weekly Wishes, which is all about setting goals for the week ahead. This resonated with me because I LOVE setting goals – especially this time of year when we are all running off the New Year’s Resolution buzz!
This week I felt compelled to join in, and jot down my own weekly wishes. Without further ado…
Write some more posts for The Butterfly Editions. To be honest, feel like a bit of a phoney. I have been reading blogs for years – and have always somehow felt connected to blogging, but never really taken it too seriously. I am determined to make my dreams for The Butterfly Editions (and beyond) come true. I love to write, but I also love to procrastinate. So I guess this goal is more about just getting real and typing out whats going in my head!
Pick some flowers for the house. I love having flowers and plants in my home, it makes me feel a little bit happier every time I see them. I’ve been out of town over the festive season, and now that I’m back in my little house it doesn’t feel quite right without fresh flowers to brighten and freshen the place up. I noticed some gorgeous daisies have bloomed up our lane, I must get out and pick some!
Finish my book. I am an avid book non-finisher (yes, I made that word up!). Most of the time I get about 2/3 of the way through a book and move on to the next one – I seem to have some kind of mental inability to finish them. Recently I have done this with The Diary of Anne Frank, The Happiness Diaries & My Sisters Keeper. What is with me?! But the book I’m reading now, I know I’m going to get to the end – it is so well-written and thought-provoking – Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo, based in a Mumbai slum. I have been fortunate enough to travel to India twice, so this book simultaneously breaks my heart and makes me wish I was there.
Go for a run. Because maybe, just maybe, I want to run a half-marathon in June. And I am not in running shape right now! Must get moving, stat.
No new clothes/makeup/things. I waaaay overspent this Christmas, so have set myself the goal of not buying any new clothes, makeup or ‘things’ for a while. I’m also hoping that this will help remind me that possessions are not the most important things in life, there are much more important things.
Pretty sure that will keep me going for now! What are your wishes for the week?
Gosh, this is so cliche, I almost can’t believe I’m doing it. Starting a brand new blog early in the new year – one of approximately a million or more doing the exact same thing!
I did used to write a blog over at Springjumps a few months back – however this new blog here has been brewing in my mind for a while! I am ready to move on from my Springjumps days (sporadic as they were) as I am at a new phase in my life, with fresh dreams, thoughts and plans.
I think this blog is going to teach me a thing or two. I strive to lead a positive life, an adventurous life, and a meaningful life. It is here that I plan to share my stories, ideas and experiences not only for my own personal growth and memories, but to inspire others (yes, you!) to live a full, purposeful and happy life too.
Shall we? Lets do it!
